This year, Agnico Eagle had the privilege of being the Diamond Sponsor for the 16th Annual Mushkegowuk Cup. What began as a small hockey tournament in Moosonee has blossomed into one of the largest gatherings in Treaty 9 Mattagami First Nation Territory, uniting players, families, and communities from across the Mushkegowuk Territory, neighbouring First Nations, and even Quebec.
Hockey and mining share surprising parallels: they both bring people together to achieve shared goals, demand teamwork and dedication, and rely on a foundation of respect and community values. Just as hockey strengthens bonds on the ice, initiatives like the Mushkegowuk Cup foster a spirit of connection and resilience across the region—principles that are central to Agnico Eagle’s work as well.
With divisions ranging from U7 to U18, the tournament was a vibrant showcase of skill, sportsmanship, and community spirit. Our Community Relations and Indigenous Affairs team was proud to attend, cheering on young athletes, connecting with families, and sharing career opportunities. Witnessing the talent and determination of the players, along with the unwavering support of their families, was truly inspiring.
As Jess Corston, Community Relations Coordinator, shared: “Mushkegowuk Cup is about so much more than the game. It’s a place where families reunite, friendships are formed, and lifelong memories are made. At Agnico Eagle, we value family, relationships, and community in everything we do, and we are extremely grateful to have had the opportunity to support the Mushkegowuk Cup 2025.”
Congratulations to all the players, organizers, and supporters who made this event such a remarkable success. Your passion and hard work truly shone through, and we are honored to have been part of this incredible celebration of community and culture.
